The owners of the 2002 San Francisco Decorator Showcase house wanted a very modern kitchen and family room that would accommodate their family of six. The concept was a stainless steel cooking kitchen, contained within a larger kitchen/family room, with a swath of periwinkle blue highlighting the intersection of the two. Stainless steel was used on the appliances, in quilted form on the backsplash, and in the form of laminate on the ceiling. The lighting is integrated with the panels to enhance the sense that the cooking kitchen is itself an integrated appliance. The upper cabinets are spaced off the wall with lights behind that highlight the quilting of the steel. The stainless steel margarita bar uses cantilevered glass shelves for bottle and glass storage and the refrigerator below is disguised behind the stainless cabinet. Other materials used are black mirror stone on the countertops, Poggenpohl laminate cabinets, sandblasted glass cabinet faces, and maple flooring.
