Between parkland immediately to the north and San Francisco’s Bay and skyline to the south, Butler Armsden Architects created a unique bayside home that provides its owners with a direct relationship to the outdoors. The home’s exterior walls are clad in cedar stained to match the surrounding hills, while the steel roof continues to take on a red hue through oxidation. The owners’ desire for both privacy and maximum access to the spectacular views led to a series of interdependent design solutions, from the placement of the building on the site to the openness of the interior plan.
