B.Arch | California College of the Arts
Aby received her B.Arch from California College of the Arts in 2015. As a junior in college, she interned in Dakar at Cabinet Atepa over the summer break where she was introduced to custom residential work. Upon graduation, she joined HKIT Architects in Oakland and spent four years there designing schools and multi-family housing projects. She joined Butler Armsden in the beginning of 2020.
Growing up, Aby moved around frequently with her family within Africa, and after high school she moved to the U.S. She says that experiencing so many different cities played an integral role in her desire to pursue architecture. She has always been intrigued with the ways in which culture, traditions, climate, and immediate environment affect how people interact and understand architecture, especially interior spaces.
Aby brings a strong interest and knowledge in space planning with her to Butler Armsden, noting that she observed from a young age how her own home could be reconfigured to better fit daily use and routines. She believes our built environment strongly influences how we live and function on a daily basis at work or in classrooms, but especially at home, and she incorporates these ideologies into her daily work.
Aby enjoys learning about new design and material trends and letting those inform her design approach. Her favorite part of working in architecture is contributing to the unique designs created as a result of collaborating with clients and other fellow designers.
